Adult Muscle Evaluation
Our specially trained ophthalmic technicians will start your examination by reviewing your family history, current health history, medication allergies, and any medications you may be taking. The technician will ask about any eye misalignment, double vision, and or other ocular problems. They will check your vision (be sure to bring your glasses and/or contact lenses), confrontation visual field, pupils, and a “Fly Test” to check your depth perception. A refraction will be performed to determine your best corrected vision, and your intraocular pressure will be checked.
Your eye doctor will measure your eye muscles, using special ophthalmic prisms. Dilating drops will be instilled; in general it will take 20 minutes for your eyes to dilate, and your eyes will remain dilated for approximately 5-6 hours (dilating drops increase sensitivity to bright lights and diminish “up close” reading vision).
After your eyes are dilated several specialized microscopes will be used to examine your eyelids, the surface, and inside of your eyes. Your doctor will discuss the alignment of your eyes, and your treatment plan will be explained in great detail. Discussion of follow up appointments and possible surgery will be discussed. Any questions you may have will be answered. A change in your glasses prescription may be recommended.
