Glaucoma Evaluation
Who Should Have a Glaucoma Evaluation?
Individuals referred to our practice with known glaucoma or concerns for glaucoma should have glaucoma evaluation. Established patients in our practice who have risk factors for developing glaucoma (i.e. family history of glaucoma) should also have a glaucoma evaluation.
What to Expect During Your Glaucoma Evaluation?
Our specially trained ophthalmic technicians will start your examination by reviewing your family history, current health history, medication allergies, and any medications you may be taking. The technician will ask about any eye problems you may be experiencing. They will check your vision (be sure to bring your glasses and/or contact lenses), eye muscle alignment, confrontation visual field, pupils, color vision, and a refraction will be performed to determine your best-corrected vision. Next the technician will check your intraocular pressure.
Your eye doctor will review the information from the technicians work up. A specialized microscope will be used to examine your eyes. Your doctor may request additional testing to be performed that day. After the testing is performed your doctor will review the results and the results will be discussed with you. Your doctor will discuss the health of your eyes, suggested treatment options, and follow up care. Any questions you may have will be answered. |
