Chalazion Surgery
Chalazion Excision in Children Excision of a chalazion in an adult is an office procedure. However, young children must go to an ambulatory surgery center for this procedure. The procedure will take place in an operating room and the child will be asleep for the entire procedure. An anesthesiologist will monitor the child and they will not feel any discomfort or pain.
Most incisions are made on the under side of the eyelid. The inflamed tissue is scooped out with a sterile surgical instrument, and in some cases dissolvable stitches may be used. Ointment will be will be applied inside the eye and an eye patch will be tape over the eye.
